Fox in Socks, by Dr Seuss

This is my all-time favourite book to read with a toddler! An ever-increasing tongue twister, it starts simply enough with lines such as “Fox in socks on box on Knox…’ but soon develops into mouth-bending horrors such as “Duck takes licks in lakes Luke Luck likes, Luke Luck takes licks in lakes Duck likes” ….and so on.

One of the truly magical things about Dr Seuss is that his sheer infectious joy of words makes even a pre-language child want to join in. On many occasions G and I were brought almost to tears of laughter by Thing One, ever so earnestly, joining in with the saga of the “tweetle beetle puddle paddle battle”.

This book also became the inspiration for several World Book Day costumes at nursery, as the boy loved to dress up as Fox in Socks.

Mr Fox our game is done, sir.

Thank you for a lot of fun, sir.
